Corbin Bosch’s courageous catch despite a mid-field collision helped South Africa dismiss Abhishek Sharma early and execute their bowling plan against India.
Collisions on the cricket field are always worrying. Fielders often chase catches with their eyes fixed on the ball, paying little attention to their surroundings. When two players converge at speed, the risk of serious injury increases.
In India’s final group-stage match against the Netherlands, Rinku Singh chose to drop a catch rather than risk colliding with captain Suryakumar Yadav, even though the match situation was tense. For him, avoiding injury in a dead rubber was more important than holding on to the catch.
However, what followed in the clash against South Africa stood in contrast. Corbin Bosch produced a courageous effort to dismiss Indian opener Abhishek Sharma for 15. The moment came on the third ball of the fifth over when Marco Jansen deceived Abhishek with a knuckleball. The batter mistimed his flick, sending the ball high into the air.
Bosch sprinted to his right from mid-wicket, while Keshav Maharaj charged in from mid-on. Both players kept their eyes firmly on the ball. Bosch stretched forward, grabbed the catch, and held on despite crashing into Maharaj. The successful effort underlined South Africa’s commitment in the field. Watch the clip below:
The wicket reflected South Africa’s clear plan against India. For the first eight overs, their bowlers relied heavily on slower deliveries, forcing the Indian batters to generate their own pace. India struggled to adjust and failed to build momentum.
The dismissal also raised concerns about Abhishek Sharma’s form. After three consecutive ducks earlier in the tournament, he was already under pressure. The team management continued to back him, suggesting that his failures were only an aberration.

But in this match, Abhishek looked out of rhythm and low on confidence. Suryakumar Yadav, who had earlier brushed aside questions about including Sanju Samson in place of Abhishek, could face renewed scrutiny if India go on to lose this match.
