Reports indicated that Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were negotiating a potential swap of Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja.
A major player swap could be happening in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and inaugural winners Rajasthan Royals (RR) are in serious talks. The potential trade involves India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and CSK’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
Sanju Samson has been a key part of the Royals since 2018. He has been their captain since 2021. Reports say he has now asked to be released from the franchise before the IPL 2026 auction. This follows reported tension between Samson and the RR management. The tension began after the team decided to release Jos Buttler ahead of the 2024 auction, a decision that upset Samson.
According to Cricbuzz, RR lead owner Manoj Badale has personally contacted multiple franchises. These include CSK, Delhi Capitals (DC), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The Royals have reportedly sent formal communication to these teams to gauge interest in acquiring Samson.

RR’s Demands and CSK’s Dilemma
The most significant negotiations are for a potential straight swap of Sanju Samson for Ravindra Jadeja. Reports suggest RR have demanded either Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad in exchange for Samson. However, CSK’s management, led by CEO Kasi Viswanathan and head coach Stephen Fleming, has shown reluctance to part with either player.
Despite this, sources confirm that CSK has re-engaged with RR to explore possibilities. The franchise is weighing its options ahead of a retention meeting on November 10 and 11. The meeting will include inputs from MS Dhoni, Gaikwad, and Fleming. Samson’s potential arrival is expected to be discussed before CSK finalizes its retention list by November 15.
While Jadeja’s name is central to the talks, Shivam Dube has also been mentioned in preliminary discussions. However, Chennai is set to reject the idea of releasing Dube. They see him as a crucial part of their long-term T20 plans.

Meanwhile, Royals’ owner Manoj Badale, who is currently in Mumbai, continues to meet with other franchises. Delhi Capitals have also shown interest. However, RR’s reported demand for Tristan Stubbs plus an uncapped Indian player has complicated those negotiations.
