Sunil Gavaskar Weighs In On David Miller’s Costly Call in DC’s Narrow Defeat

David Miller’s decision to refuse a single proved costly as Delhi Capitals lost by 1 run to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026.

David Miller faced scrutiny after Delhi Capitals lost by 1 run to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026 on Wednesday. Chasing 211, DC needed 2 runs from 2 balls with Kuldeep Yadav at the non-striker’s end. Miller, batting on 41, declined a single off Prasidh Krishna’s penultimate delivery.

He aimed to finish the chase himself. However, Miller missed the final ball and attempted a quick single. Jos Buttler hit the stumps with an underarm throw, and Kuldeep was run out. Delhi ended on 209/8.

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar assessed the moment after the match. He supported Miller’s approach despite the result and said the batter trusted his ability to close the game.

“Yes, he was backing himself to hit the winning runs, but having seen the way Kuldeep Yadav nudged that ball for a single off the first ball maybe he should have given Kuldeep the strike,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

“He should have given the strike. This is all being wise after the event, but the fact remains that the way he had been hitting the previous over and that over as well, he believed that he could do it, simple as that. So you can’t fault him for that. He had the confidence that he could do it, but it didn’t come off because the ball that Prasidh Krishna bowled was an absolutely superb delivery,” he added.

David Miller was spotted sitting dejected after the loss. Fans dint mince words, as they criticised his late decision across social media. However, Captain Axar Patel was seen backing Miller immediately after the match. Several Gujarat Titans players also showed support, having shared a dressing room earlier.

Delhi Capitals will next face Chennai Super Kings on April 11 in IPL T20.
