Shubman Gill Gets Punished With INR 12 Lakh Fine For DC vs GT Penalty

Shubman Gill led Gujarat Titans with a solid 70 but was fined for a slow over-rate despite their thrilling one-run victory.

Gujarat Titans won the DC vs GT clash on Wednesday, April 8, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. However, Titans skipper Shubman Gill was slapped with a fine by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for a slow over-rate in the match.

While Gujarat Titans opened their account on the points table in their third encounter in IPL 2026, Shubman Gill’s fate was sealed by the BCCI’s penalty. Notably, this was Gill’s first offense of the season and, under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, he was fined INR 12 lakh, to be deducted from his match fees.

As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the IPL statement read.

Meanwhile, it was a thrilling win for Gujarat Titans. In Delhi, after putting up a mammoth total of 210 runs on the board, Delhi Capitals came out to chase, led by a heroic 52-ball 92. However, the final-over thriller had everyone on the edge of their seats.

While Shubman Gill himself scored 70 off 45 balls for Gujarat, alongside contributions from Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar, Delhi Capitals did not have many players to rely on.

Pathum Nissanka, who opened for DC, scored 41 off 24 balls, while Nitish Rana and star youngster Sameer Rizvi failed badly. With 13 needed from the last six balls, Vipraj Nigam and David Miller were at the crease. Prasidh Krishna was given the responsibility to defend the total on the board.

The last-over drama saw Nigam hit a boundary and then get dismissed on the very next ball. David Miller then hit a six but denied a single, which brought the equation down to two needed off one delivery. However, Miller was run out on the final ball, costing DC the match and handing Gujarat Titans a one-run win in the 14th match of IPL 2026.
