England have announced their playing XI for the third Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval, making one change from the previous match in Brisbane. Fast bowler Josh Tongue comes into the side, replacing Gus Atkinson, ahead of the day-night match starting on Wednesday.
Atkinson exits after a difficult run across two Tests. He took three wickets at an average of 78.66 from 54 overs. He remained wicketless in the opening Test in Perth and conceded 114 runs for one wicket in Australia’s first innings at the Gabba. Atkinson later picked up both wickets during the home side’s chase on day four.
Meanwhile, Tongue returns to the Ashes setup after featuring in the 2023 series. He took five wickets in the Lord’s Test against Australia during that campaign. Across six Tests, Tongue has 31 wickets.
