Tom Banton’s unbeaten 63 powered England to a five-wicket win over Scotland in their T20 World Cup Group C clash at Eden Gardens.
England sealed a five-wicket win over Scotland in the 23rd Match of Group C at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on February 14, 2026, chasing down 153 with 10 balls to spare at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
After being asked to bat, Scotland posted 152 in 19.4 overs. Their innings was built around a fluent 49 off 32 balls from captain Richie Berrington, who struck five fours and two sixes to anchor the middle overs.
Michael Jones provided early momentum with a brisk 33 off 20 deliveries, but Scotland lost wickets at regular intervals and struggled to build sustained partnerships.
Adil Rashid was the pick of England’s bowlers, claiming 3 for 36 in his four overs, including key strikes in the middle phase. Jofra Archer made an early impact with 2 for 24, while Liam Dawson chipped in with 2 for 34. Scotland slipped from 113 for 3 to 127 for 8, denting their hopes of crossing the 160-mark. Oliver Davidson’s unbeaten 20 off 15 balls helped them push past 150 before they were bowled out.
England Pass Over The Line Eventually
England’s chase began shakily as Phil Salt and Jos Buttler fell cheaply inside the first two overs, reducing them to 13 for 2. Jacob Bethell and Tom Banton then steadied the innings with a 66-run stand for the third wicket. Bethell made 32 off 28 balls before falling to Oliver Davidson.
Banton, however, carried the momentum forward with a commanding unbeaten 63 off 41 balls, striking four fours and three sixes. He reached his half-century in 33 balls and ensured England stayed ahead of the required rate. Harry Brook fell for 4, but Sam Curran added a vital 28 off 20 balls to keep the chase on track.

After Curran’s dismissal at 132 for 5, Banton and Will Jacks (16 not out off 10) calmly guided England home in 18.2 overs, finishing on 155 for 5. For Scotland, Brandon McMullen, Brad Currie, Brad Wheal, Michael Leask and Davidson picked up a wicket each, but Mark Watt proved expensive.
The victory strengthened England’s position in Group C, while Scotland were left to rue a mid-innings collapse that ultimately cost them a more competitive total.
