Gautam Gambhir Offered Triple Role by Rajasthan Royals | Reports

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has reportedly been offered a partner, mentor and CEO role with a 2–3% stake by Rajasthan Royals amid ownership changes.

Gautam Gambhir could return to the IPL through the Rajasthan Royals, nearly two years after guiding Kolkata Knight Riders to the 2024 title. A report in Dainik Jagran states that a new stakeholder in the Rajasthan Royals has approached him with a major leadership offer. The proposal includes responsibilities as partner, mentor and chief executive.

The report adds that the Rajasthan Royals are undergoing ownership changes, with a majority stake moving to new investors. As part of the plan, Gambhir has been offered a 2–3 percent stake in the franchise along with executive and mentoring duties.

“A majority of Rajasthan Royals shareholders are selling their stake to the new owners. The deal is currently in a transferable state. One of the owners in RR’s new management has offered Gambhir a two-to-three per cent stake, in addition to the roles of CEO and mentor,” the report read.

IPL Offer Would Require Gambhir to Step Down

However, Gautam Gambhir cannot accept any IPL role while serving as India’s head coach due to conflict-of-interest rules. A Supreme Court ruling based on the Lodha Committee reforms prevents individuals from holding positions with both the national team and an IPL franchise. Accepting the Rajasthan Royals proposal would require him to step down from his current post. Sources indicate he remains committed to the India role. His contract runs until the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.

He is currently leading India’s home T20 World Cup campaign. India has beaten the USA, Namibia and Pakistan and qualified for the Super 8s, with the Netherlands match remaining.
