Gautam Gambhir Responds To Shashi Tharoor With a Cryptic Message

Gautam Gambhir posted a cryptic message on a coach’s authority after Shashi Tharoor praised him during their meeting in Nagpur ahead of the India vs New Zealand T20I series.

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir shared a small message on social media after a post by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor drew attention online. Tharoor had uploaded a photo with Gambhir from Nagpur and praised his leadership, calling his role one of the toughest in the country.

The meeting took place ahead of the first T20I against New Zealand. India won that match by 48 runs, powered by Abhishek Sharma’s aggressive batting and disciplined bowling.

“In Nagpur, enjoyed a good &frank discussion with my old friend @GautamGambhir, the man with the hardest job in India after the PM’s! He is being second-guessed by millions daily but stays calm &walks on undaunted. A word of appreciation for his quiet determination and able leadership. Wishing him all success — starting today! #INDvNZT20,” Tharoor wrote on X.

Gambhir responded later with a cryptic note suggesting that perceptions around a coach’s authority often change with time. He also hinted at being unfairly pitted against his own people, despite working with a strong support group.

“Thanks a lot Dr @ShashiTharoor! When the dust settles, truth & logic about a coach’s supposedly “unlimited authority” will become clear. Till then I’m amused at being pitted against my own who are the very best!,” Gambhir replied.

Gambhir’s Overall Record as India Head Coach

Gautam Gambhir’s spell as India’s head coach has delivered mixed results. In T20Is, results have remained strong. India won the Asia Cup and stayed unbeaten in the bilateral series. The run places the side among favourites for the T20 World Cup starting February 7.
