Ashes 2025-26: Geoffrey Boycott Criticises England After Another Brisbane Loss

Geoffrey Boycott strongly criticised England’s performance in the Ashes, saying Ben Stokes’ team talks confidently but fails to deliver on the field.

Former captain Geoffrey Boycott has delivered a sharp assessment of England after the team fell 0-2 behind in the five-match series. Australia wrapped up an eight-wicket win in the second Test at the Gabba after England collapsed again, setting a target of only 64 runs despite conceding a first-innings deficit of 177.

Boycott criticised England’s overall approach, arguing that the team talks confidently but fails to match those claims with performance. He said England’s batting and bowling lacked the consistency needed to compete in Australia.

“England talk the talk but can’t walk the walk. With this sort of batting and bowling they couldn’t win an egg cup,” Boycott was quoted as saying by India Today.

Boycott also questioned the long-term planning highlighted by captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, saying England’s preparation has not translated into results.

“Ben Stokes said England had a blueprint and had been planning this tour for four years. What a load of nonsense. We can’t believe anything they say because they do not want to listen to anyone outside their own camp,” Boycott said.

“Here is a guy(Harry Brook) with talent from heaven but keeps frustrating with brainless, irresponsible strokes. In tight moments he has not helped England win. He bats as if he is only interested in the spectacular,” he added.

With three Tests remaining, England face a massive challenge to stay alive in the series. The third test is in Adelaide on December 17.
