England fast bowler Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes after scans confirmed a left hamstring injury. He picked up the problem during the fourth Test at the MCG. Atkinson left the field after bowling his fifth over of Australia’s second innings in Melbourne.

England will not name a replacement for the fifth Test, which begins in Sydney on January 4.

Notably, he is the third England bowler sidelined on the tour. Mark Wood is unavailable due to a knee issue, while Jofra Archer continues to recover from a side strain. With Atkinson out, the pace workload will fall on Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and captain Ben Stokes.

England trail the five-match series 1-3 heading into the final Test. The visitors suffered heavy defeats in Perth and Brisbane, followed by an 82-run loss in Adelaide. They responded with a four-wicket win in Melbourne, offering only a small consolation.
