Harshit Rana To Miss IPL 2026 Partially After Knee Surgery

Harshit Rana Ruled Out Of IPL 2026: KKR Pacer Suffers Knee Injury | Reports

Kolkata Knight Riders face a major IPL 2026 setback with Harshit Rana’s injury, while uncertainty looms over Matheesha Pathirana’s fitness ahead of the season opener.

Kolkata Knight Riders could be without one of their most promising young pacers, Harshit Rana, for a significant stretch of the Indian Premier League 2026 season.

The 24-year-old is currently recovering from a knee injury that required surgery after he picked it up during a warm-up fixture ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, while representing India national cricket team against South Africa national cricket team.

Rana had bowled just one over in that match before sustaining a ligament strain in his right knee. He is now undergoing rehabilitation, with no confirmed timeline for his return, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India has yet to set a date for his comeback.

Despite the setback, Rana was recently present at the BCCI’s annual awards ceremony in New Delhi, where he was honoured for Best International Debut (Male). He was replaced in India’s World Cup squad by Mohammed Siraj, with India eventually lifting the trophy.

Pathirana fitness cloud adds to KKR’s concerns

KKR’s injury worries do not end with Rana. Sri Lankan speedster Matheesha Pathirana is also racing against time to regain full fitness ahead of the season.

Pathirana, who was picked up for ₹18 crore at the mini-auction, is recovering from a calf strain suffered during the World Cup. While there is no official confirmation yet, a cryptic social media post from his manager has hinted that the right-arm pacer could still make it back in time for IPL 2026.

Squad reshuffle and replacements ahead of season opener

In a recent squad move, KKR signed Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman, who was released following directives from the BCCI amid diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh earlier this year.

Interestingly, Muzarabani had initially committed to Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League, but opted out of that deal to join KKR. Reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board may consider legal action regarding the situation.

KKR still have a range of pace options in their squad, including Vaibhav Arora, Akash Deep, Umran Malik, Cameron Green, Kartik Tyagi, and Ramandeep Singh.

The franchise will kick off their IPL 2026 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 29 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
