Pakistan Cricket Board Denies Reports of PKR 5 Million Fine on Players

Pakistan Cricket Board has denied reports of fines on Pakistan players after the 2026 T20 World Cup exit but confirmed discussions on a new performance-based formula.

The Pakistan Cricket Board clarified its stance after reports about penalties following the 2026 T20 World Cup. Officials confirmed that no player from the national squad received any fine. Earlier reports suggested a penalty of PKR 5 million for each of the 15 players. The amount equals around INR 16.56 lakhs.

PCB spokesperson Amir Mir addressed the issue on March 14. He stated that the board is considering a new performance-based formula. The proposed system could balance incentives given to players for results.

“No player has been fined but yes the board is thinking about working out a formula for players because they get lot of incentives when they perform well. But nothing is final and no player has been fined,” Mir said, as quoted by PTI.

Pakistan’s selection panel addressed the media in Lahore soon after the latest developments. The panel includes Aaqib Javed, Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq. The group urged the PCB to review the present selection system. Officials plan the review after the national team returns from Bangladesh.

Senior selector Aaqib Javed explained the current structure. Selectors prepare a pool of 21 players for the team management. The head coach and captain then choose the final squad of 15. They also decide the playing XI for every match. The system differs from the previous method. Earlier, selectors helped finalise both the squad and the playing XI.

Recent reports also suggested tension between selectors and coach Mike Hesson after Pakistan exited the T20 World Cup at the Super 8 stage. However, the board has not finalised any decision yet.
