ICC Reaffirms Support for Bangladesh After T20 World Cup Exit

The International Cricket Council(ICC) held constructive talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board(PCB) and Bangladesh Cricket Board(BCB), reaffirming support for Bangladesh after its T20 World Cup absence.

The ICC completed a detailed round of discussions with the PCB and Bangladesh, focusing on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and the wider future of cricket in South Asia. Officials described the talks as open and forward-looking, with all parties engaging constructively.

During the discussions, the ICC addressed Bangladesh’s absence from the upcoming tournament and reaffirmed the BCB’s status as a respected Full Member. The governing body highlighted Bangladesh’s long-standing contribution to international cricket and its importance in the sport’s global development. The ICC also underlined its commitment to supporting cricket growth in Bangladesh, a market followed by more than 200 million fans.

ICC Confirms No Action Against Bangladesh Board

The ICC confirmed that no financial, sporting, or administrative action will be taken against the Bangladesh Cricket Board over the current issue. The board also retains the option to approach the Dispute Resolution Committee under existing ICC regulations, should it decide to do so.

As part of the broader understanding, Bangladesh has secured the opportunity to host an ICC tournament between 2028 and 2031, ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2031. The hosting will follow standard ICC procedures and operational requirements.

The ICC, along with the PCB and BCB, reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation. ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta reiterated that Bangladesh remains a key cricketing nation, with sustained focus on growth, stability, and future opportunities for players and fans.

The ICC stressed that the discussions do not change its governance structure, constitutional authority, or decision-making processes. All existing regulations and frameworks remain fully in place as preparations for the tournament continue.
