The India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 clash moved closer to confirmation after positive talks between the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled for Sunday, February 15, appeared to be back on track after discussions between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reportedly made progress.
According to a report by The Times of India, ICC representatives Imran Khawaja and Mubashir Usmani arrived in Lahore on Sunday morning to hold talks with PCB officials. The discussions followed concerns raised after the Pakistan government announced a boycott of the match against India, which is set to be played in Colombo.
Earlier reports had suggested that negotiations between the ICC and PCB had been ongoing since the Pakistan government decided to block the national team from playing India, despite allowing Pakistan to participate in the tournament.
The ICC has reportedly asked Pakistan to explain how the ‘Force Majeure’ clause could be invoked to justify refusing to play the game, after the PCB indicated that the decision was taken at the government level. The global governing body also sought clarity on what steps were taken to resolve the situation in accordance with the tournament’s Terms of Participation.
The ICC-PCB Impasse
Pakistan opted to boycott the February 15 fixture in solidarity with Bangladesh, who were replaced by Scotland after refusing to travel to India for World Cup matches due to security concerns.
While Pakistan are cleared to compete in the T20 World Cup, the government barred the team from facing India, a fixture that represents the ICC’s biggest commercial draw and is crucial for broadcast partners.

The move prompted Sri Lanka Cricket to write to the PCB, warning that the absence of the marquee clash would cause major financial losses and damage the tournament’s image, especially as Sri Lanka is co-hosting the event with India.
Pakistan are scheduled to play their T20 World Cup matches in Colombo and Pallekele, beginning with their opening game against the Netherlands on Saturday, February 7.
