ICC Punishes Scotland’s George Munsey For Breaching Code Of Conduct In Nepal Clash

George Munsey was officially reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during Scotland’s Group C match against Nepal.

George Munsey has been reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during Scotland’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group C match against Nepal at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

The International Cricket Council confirmed the development in an official statement. “Munsey was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match,” the ICC said in a statement.

The incident took place at the end of the 10th over of Scotland’s innings. Munsey flung his helmet onto the advertising boards while walking back to the dressing room after his dismissal out of frustration.

Additionally, one demerit point has been added to Munsey’s disciplinary record. This marks his first offence in a 24-month period. “Munsey admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

“On-field umpires K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan and Alex Wharf, third umpire Adrian Holdstock, and fourth umpire Langton Rusere levelled the charge,” it added.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and can go up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

George Munsey’s Tournament So Far

Munsey has scored 134 runs in four innings in the ongoing World Cup. He had a modest start against West Indies with 19 runs but bounced back strongly with 84 runs against Nepal. However, he could not maintain that momentum, scoring 4 and 27 in the subsequent matches.

Scotland have been eliminated from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after managing just one win in four group-stage matches. They finished third in Group C due to a superior net run rate compared to other teams, but it was not enough to secure qualification.
