India continued to dominate the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings despite a minor ratings drop, while South Africa climbed above Pakistan in the latest annual update.
The India national cricket team have successfully retained the top spot in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings after the annual update released by the apex cricket body on Monday. Although the Men in Blue dropped by one rating point, they continue to sit comfortably at the summit with 118 rating points.
In an official statement, the ICC said, “India remain at the pinnacle of the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings after the latest annual update, leading second-placed New Zealand (113 points) by a narrow five-point margin, while Australia (109 points) retain the third place to round off the top three.”
India’s dominance in ODI cricket has been backed by their strong performances over the last few years, including the ICC Champions Trophy triumph in 2025 and consistent bilateral success against major sides.
The annual rankings update gives complete weightage to matches played since May 2025, while games played during the previous two years are counted at 50 percent value, which slightly affected India’s overall rating despite remaining at the top.
South Africa Overtake Pakistan In Top Four Shake-Up
One of the biggest changes in the updated rankings came with South Africa overtaking Pakistan to move into fourth place. The Proteas currently hold 102 rating points, while Pakistan slipped to fifth with 98 points.
The rest of the top 10 teams largely remained unchanged. Sri Lanka continue at sixth position with 96 points, Afghanistan remain seventh with 93 points, while England occupy the eighth place with 89 points.
Bangladesh retained the ninth spot with 84 points, whereas West Indies stayed 10th with 74 points. The gap between Bangladesh and the Caribbean side has now widened to 10 points after previously being separated by only six points.

Further down the rankings table, Ireland climbed above Zimbabwe to claim the 11th spot with 54 points compared to Zimbabwe’s 53. Meanwhile, the United States moved to 13th place after overtaking Scotland with 46 points, while the UAE also improved their standings by jumping above Canada into the 19th position.
ICC Rankings Crucial For 2027 World Cup Qualification
The latest ODI rankings update carries added significance because it directly impacts qualification for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.
Speaking on the qualification scenario, the ICC stated, “This particular outcome has important ramifications for both the sides, as they seek to secure a direct qualification for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027,”
The governing body further added, “The top eight teams in the ICC Rankings as of March 31, 2027 will secure direct qualification alongside hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, who have automatically qualified,”
With South Africa already assured of participation as hosts, the race for the remaining direct qualification spots becomes even more competitive. If the Proteas continue to stay inside the top eight rankings, the ninth-ranked side could still potentially secure direct qualification depending on the final standings before the cut-off date.
