Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Mumbai Indians by 2 wickets in a heart-stopping finish on Sunday, eliminating MI from IPL 2026.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru survived one of the most nail-biting finishes to beat Mumbai Indians by 2 wickets on Sunday evening. This result has simultaneously sealed RCB’s place in the top of the IPL 2026 standings and brought Mumbai Indians’ season to a brutal end.
After losing the toss, Mumbai Indians struggled early against a superb spell from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The veteran pacer removed Ryan Rickelton before dismissing Rohit Sharma for 22 off 10 balls and Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck in the same over. MI slipped to 28/3 inside three overs.

Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir then rebuilt the innings with an 82-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Tilak scored 57 off 42 deliveries with three fours and two sixes, while Dhir added 47 from 32 balls. Late contributions from Will Jacks and Raj Angad Bawa pushed Mumbai to 166/7 in 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar finished with outstanding figures of 4 wickets, while Romario Shepherd and Rasikh Salam Dar claimed one each.
RCB’s chase started terribly after Virat Kohli departed for a first-ball duck. Jacob Bethell made 27 off 27 balls, but Mumbai kept striking regularly through Corbin Bosch, who grabbed 4/26, and Deepak Chahar, who took 2/33.
Krunal Pandya, however, completely changed the match with a fighting 73 off 46 balls, smashing four boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 158.70. He battled cramps during the closing stages but continued attacking under pressure. The final over turned chaotic as RCB still required crucial runs with wickets falling around them. Bhuvneshwar Kumar then smashed a six over covers before Rasikh Salam Dar helped complete the winning runs off the final delivery.
