Sunrisers Hyderabad surged to the top of the IPL 2026 table after a commanding 33-run win over Punjab Kings, powered by Heinrich Klaasen’s 69.
Sunrisers Hyderabad produced a dominant all-round display to defeat Punjab Kings by 33 runs in Match 49 of IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. Riding on a powerful batting performance, SRH posted a massive 235/4 before restricting PBKS to 202/7 in their 20 overs.
SRH’s innings was built on explosive starts and consistent middle-order contributions. Abhishek Sharma set the tone with a blistering 35 off 13 balls, while Travis Head added 38 off 19 as Hyderabad raced to 84 inside the powerplay phase. The aggressive approach ensured early momentum and put Punjab’s bowlers under pressure.
Heinrich Klaasen once again stood out with a commanding 69 off 43 balls, mixing power with control to push SRH towards a daunting total. Nitish Kumar Reddy’s unbeaten 29 off 13 provided the late flourish as SRH finished strongly at 235/4.

Punjab Kings had a disastrous start in the chase, losing both Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh within the first two overs. Skipper Shreyas Iyer also fell early, leaving PBKS struggling at 23/3 and eventually 63/4 inside the powerplay. The early collapse made the chase extremely difficult despite the batting-friendly surface.
Cooper Connolly emerged as the lone warrior for Punjab, playing a magnificent unbeaten knock of 107 off 59 balls. Marcus Stoinis (28 off 14) and Suryansh Shedge (25 off 17) provided brief support, but wickets at regular intervals prevented any real comeback.
Playoff Scenarios For SRH and PBKS
With this victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad climbed to the top of the points table with 14 points from 11 matches and a healthy net run rate.
They now have three games remaining against Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and are firmly in control of their playoff destiny. Even one more win should be enough to confirm qualification, while two or three wins could secure a top-two finish.
