Ishan Kishan shared his opinions after getting selected for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
After over a year out of the national side, explosive wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has fought his way back into India’s 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
His selection, announced on December 20, comes on the back of a dominant domestic campaign where he led Jharkhand to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title. Kishan replaces the out-of-form Shubman Gill and is expected to serve as the backup wicketkeeper to Sanju Samson.
Kishan last played for India in November 2023. His return is a direct reward for his sensational form, where he finished as the highest run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
He amassed 517 runs at a staggering strike rate of 197.32, playing a pivotal role in Jharkhand’s maiden trophy win.
When asked about his comeback, Kishan expressed his joy and credited his state team. “Thank you so much. It feels great to be back in the Indian team. The entire Jharkhand squad contributed to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph,” Kishan was quoted as saying by India Today.
His inclusion means fellow wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma misses out. Kishan’s tournament was highlighted by a match-winning 101 off 49 balls in the final against Haryana, an innings that powered Jharkhand to a massive total and secured the championship.
