Jasprit Bumrah credited Shivam Dube’s crucial late boundaries and detailed his own tactical spell after India sealed a semifinal spot with a five-wicket win over West Indies.
India pacer Jasprit Bumrah credited Shivam Dube’s late cameo as a turning point in India’s five-wicket win over West Indies in their virtual quarterfinal clash at the T20 World Cup. The victory secured India’s place in the semifinals after a tense chase.
Chasing 196, India needed 17 runs from the final 10 balls when Dube walked in after Hardik Pandya’s dismissal. The left-hander made an immediate impact, smashing a boundary off his first delivery and adding another four on the penultimate ball of the 19th over.
Those two crucial boundaries reduced the equation to just seven runs from the final over. Sanju Samson then calmly finished the job with four balls to spare, guiding India into the last four.

Bumrah said Dube’s short knock may not grab headlines but played a key role in easing the pressure at a decisive moment.
“You know, obviously, the two fours that Dube hit, it is in the cricketing books and stats, nobody will really appreciate that, but the people who really know cricket, the two fours really did not set the pressure on us because sometimes 8-9 runs in the last over, it can get tricky sometimes,” Bumrah said while speaking to ICC.
Bumrah’s Twin Strikes Derail West Indies
Earlier in the match, Bumrah delivered an important spell with the ball. He finished with figures of 2/36 in his four overs and struck twice in the same over to push West Indies on the back foot. The Indian pacer dismissed Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase, halting the hosts’ momentum.
Explaining his approach, Bumrah said the conditions demanded smart variations rather than outright pace. “The wicket was holding up, so we wanted to use our variation. We didn’t want to bowl too fast because that was an easy option. Hit our back of length, use our change of pace, so we wanted to make run scoring as difficult as possible and today was a good day where I got some wickets,” Bumrah said.
