Jasprit Bumrah Workload To Be Managed As BCCI Eyes Prince Yadav As Possible India Replacement For AFG Series

Mumbai Indians Receive Big Update on Jasprit Bumrah Before First Game

BCCI are reportedly considering IPL 2026 pace sensation Prince Yadav as Jasprit Bumrah’s possible replacement for the Afghanistan series amid growing workload management concerns.

India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah continues to remain at the centre of workload management discussions ahead of the Afghanistan series in June.

The star pacer, who has been one of the most valuable assets across all formats for India, has been carefully monitored since the 2025 Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to the immense physical demands of international cricket.

With IPL 2026 set to conclude on May 31, reports have suggested that Bumrah could feature in either the one-off Test against Afghanistan or the three-match ODI series, but not both. The Indian management reportedly wants to avoid overburdening one of their few all-format fast bowlers ahead of a packed international calendar.

According to moneycontrol.com, Lucknow Super Giants pacer Prince Yadav has now emerged as a strong contender to replace Bumrah in the Afghanistan series if the senior quick is rested.

Prince Yadav Emerges As Strong Contender

Prince Yadav has impressed throughout IPL 2026 with his raw pace and ability to strike during crucial phases of the innings. The Delhi speedster consistently clocked over 140 kmph this season and delivered several impactful spells for Lucknow Super Giants.

The right-arm pacer picked up 16 wickets from 12 matches while maintaining an economy rate of 8.53 and a strike rate of 16.00. Despite a couple of underwhelming performances in recent games, Yadav managed to register two separate three-wicket hauls and played key roles in victories for his franchise.

His ability to bowl aggressively with the new ball and generate movement in the powerplay reportedly caught the attention of the selectors ahead of the Afghanistan assignment.

Bumrah’s Difficult IPL 2026 Could Influence Selection

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah endured a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign statistically. The Mumbai Indians pacer managed only three wickets from 12 matches while recording an economy rate of 8.53 and a strike rate of 90.0, making it one of the toughest IPL seasons of his career since 2016.

This dip in white-ball returns could encourage the BCCI to prioritise Bumrah for the longer format instead, especially with the one-off Test against Afghanistan beginning on June 6.

If Bumrah is preserved for the Test side, Prince Yadav could receive an opportunity in the ODI squad, particularly with Harshit Rana currently dealing with injury concerns.

However, if the selectors decide against major experimentation in red-ball cricket, Bumrah is expected to headline the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.

In such a scenario, the ODI series may remain the only realistic opportunity for Prince Yadav to earn his maiden India call-up.
