Karun Nair’s cryptic post came after he was overlooked for the second Test, despite strong domestic form and initial consideration as Shubman Gill’s replacement.
Karun Nair reacted to India’s batting struggles in the second Test against South Africa with a cryptic post on X, indirectly hinting at frustration over missing out on familiar conditions. His message gained attention as India suffered another collapse in Guwahati.
The hosts were bowled out for 201 in the first innings and later slipped from 95/2 to 122/8 while chasing 489. A 72-run stand between Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar briefly steadied the innings before the pressure returned. The batting issues mirrored India’s poor outing in the Kolkata Test, where they folded for 189 and 93 to lose by 30 runs.
“Some conditions carry a feel you know by heart — and the silence of not being out there adds its own sting,” Nair wrote on X.

Karun Nair was reportedly considered a possible replacement for the injured Shubman Gill ahead of the second Test, but India instead opted for Sai Sudharsan and brought in Nitish Kumar Reddy to cover for Axar Patel. Nair had returned to the national setup during the England tour, scoring 205 runs in four innings at an average of 25.63 before being dropped.

India then surprised many by using Washington Sundar at number three in the first Test, with Sudharsan returning for the second match. Meanwhile, Nair has delivered strong domestic performances for Karnataka, hitting 233, 174 and two additional fifties in his last five Ranji Trophy outings.
