Kevin Pietersen Predicts Brendon McCullum’s Return to KKR Amid IPL 2026 Struggles

Kevin Pietersen Wants England to Rethink Coaching Setup After Australia Series

Kevin Pietersen believes Brendon McCullum could return as KKR coach after their winless start in IPL 2026.

Former England batter Kevin Pietersen has made a bold prediction regarding Kolkata Knight Riders, suggesting that Brendon McCullum could rejoin the franchise as head coach next season. The statement comes after KKR’s disastrous start to the Indian Premier League 2026 campaign.

Sharing his view on social media, Pietersen wrote, “Baz McCullum will be the coach of KKR next season. Bookmark this tweet,” indicating strong belief in a reunion.

McCullum, who is currently the head coach of England’s men’s team, has prior ties with KKR, having served both as a player and coach between 2020 and 2022.

KKR’s Poor Run Raises Pressure on Leadership

KKR’s campaign has been far from ideal this season, as they remain winless after six matches. Their only point so far came from a rain-abandoned fixture against Punjab Kings. The team is currently at the bottom of the points table, with their latest defeat coming against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

The struggles have intensified scrutiny on captain Ajinkya Rahane and head coach Abhishek Nayar, as the franchise looks for answers to turn its season around.

Rahane Stays Positive Despite Setbacks

Despite the ongoing slump, Rahane has maintained a composed and optimistic outlook. Speaking after the recent loss in a post match press conference.

“We’re thinking one game at a time,” and acknowledged the challenges of a losing streak. “It’s tough when you lose games, but everyone is trying their best. No one wants to lose any match — we all want to win — but that’s what sport is all about… keep your heads up. For us, it’s about going out there, being positive, and playing with freedom. We’ve got nothing to lose.”

He further emphasized the team’s commitment and efforts, adding, “Let me tell you one thing: everyone is working really hard. For us, it’s all about playing for our fans and the people of Kolkata, and we’re trying to do our best. After each and every game, there’s discussion about how we can improve. Obviously, when you lose, you tend to think about combinations and the areas we can get better at, so the discussion is always on,”.
