KL Rahul reached 5580 IPL runs in 153 matches, surpassing Dhoni, and revealed that he aims to match his 5 IPL trophies with CSK.
Delhi Capitals batter KL Rahul delivered a standout performance in IPL 2026, scoring 152* off 67 balls against Punjab Kings on April 25 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The innings helped him cross MS Dhoni on the IPL all-time run list.
Rahul now has 5580 runs in 153 matches at a strike rate of 138.39, moving past Dhoni’s 5439 runs. He admitted he did not realise the milestone during the innings.

“I didn’t even realise I had gone past Mahi bhai on the IPL’s all-time run-scorers list. Honestly, the milestone I would love to match with MS Dhoni is his five IPL trophies that he’s won with CSK,” he said on JioStar.
Despite the achievement, Rahul stressed that team success matters more than individual numbers. He said his main goal is to win trophies and contribute to winning sides. Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings to 5 IPL titles and also secured 2 Champions League T20 trophies.
“When you have a long career, personal achievements do feel special. They tell you that your hard work and sacrifices have paid off. But at the end of the day, cricket is a team sport. You want to win trophies. You want to be part of successful sides. That has always been my goal. Every season, I give my best to win the IPL, no matter which team I play for. That matters the most to me. Personal milestones are good. They reassure me that I am on the right track. But what would truly make me happy is winning as many trophies as MS Dhoni,” he added.
The 34-year-old now averages 46.50 and strikes at 138.39, placing him fifth on the all-time list. MS Dhoni sits seventh with 5439 runs in 242 innings, averaging 38.30 at a strike rate of 137.45.
Rahul’s unbeaten 152* off 67 balls against Punjab Kings this season marked a key milestone. The knock not only increased his numbers but also secured his place among the top performers in IPL history.
