Kris Srikkanth Slams Gautam Gambhir for Constant Team Changes

Kris Srikkanth criticised Gautam Gambhir for constant team changes, saying India needs stability instead of a trial-and-error approach.

Kris Srikkanth delivered a strong critique of Gautam Gambhir for his selection approach, arguing that India’s frequent team changes have damaged stability. He feels Gambhir’s reliance on all-rounders over specialist players has created confusion, especially as India have lost 9 of their last 18 Tests, including a home whitewash against New Zealand.

The current series against South Africa has added to the pressure after a heavy defeat in Kolkata and another struggle in Guwahati. Srikkanth insists that India need a steadier selection plan rather than constant experimentation.

“Every alternate match, someone is making a debut. They can say trial and error. Gautam Gambhir can say whatever he wants. I don’t care. I have been a former captain and a former chairman of selectors and know what I’m talking about. You need consistency,” the former cricketer said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Under Gambhir, players like Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy earned rapid debuts, while consistent performers such as Sarfaraz Khan, Sai Sudharsan, and Kuldeep Yadav saw limited chances.

Srikkanth Questions Logic Behind Nitish Reddy’s All-Rounder Tag

Srikkanth also pointed to changes like Washington Sundar moving from number three in Kolkata to number eight in the next Test, calling it an example of poor clarity. He then questioned Nitish Reddy’s place across formats, arguing that his performances did not justify an all-rounder tag or a role as a long-term replacement for Hardik Pandya.

“Who calls Nitish Reddy an all-rounder? Can anyone see his bowling and say he is an all-rounder? He hit a hundred in MCG, but what has he done after that? One swallow doesn’t make a summer, as they say. If Nitish Reddy is an all-rounder, then I am a great all-rounder. Does he have movement, pace? He is not some deadly batsman either. Let’s call a spade a spade. How is Nitish in the ODI team also? What has he done? Is Nitish a replacement for Hardik Pandya?! Why not Axar Patel?” he questioned.
