KSCA expressed disappointment after missing IPL 2026 playoff hosting rights, despite stating its readiness and highlighting Bengaluru’s successful match operations.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association has openly expressed disappointment after being overlooked as a host venue for the IPL 2026 playoffs and final, raising fresh questions over the allocation process followed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

In an official statement issued on Wednesday (May 6), KSCA revealed that it had formally conveyed its readiness to host the high-profile matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, with president Venkatesh Prasad personally engaging with the board.

“At the outset, KSCA expresses its disappointment that the IPL Playoff matches have been allotted to other centres. The IPL matches conducted in Bengaluru during the current season were widely appreciated for their smooth execution, crowd management, operational efficiency, and overall spectator experience,” the statement read.

BCCI’s Decision and Venue Allocation Explained

The BCCI has opted to stage the IPL 2026 playoffs in Dharamsala and Mullanpur, while awarding the final to Ahmedabad — marking the fourth time in five years that the summit clash will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The decision came as a surprise, especially with Bengaluru, home to defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, considered a strong contender as per past trends.

Explaining its stance, the board stated, “Owing to certain operational and logistical considerations, the TATA IPL 2026 Playoffs will be conducted across three venues this season as a special case.” It further added that the change was necessitated due to “certain requirements from the local association and authorities that were beyond the scope of BCCI’s established guidelines and protocols.”

KSCA Maintains Transparency and Future Commitment

Responding to the BCCI’s explanation, KSCA clarified that its communication was aimed at ensuring clarity and transparency.

The association stated that its correspondence was “purely factual, operational, and clarificatory in nature,” intended to provide “transparency and clarity regarding logistical and stakeholder-related requirements associated with hosting such high-profile matches.”

While acknowledging the board’s authority, KSCA added, “Despite our preparedness and willingness to host the Playoffs, we understand that the BCCI has taken a decision to allot these matches to other venues. While the specific reasons for the same have not been formally communicated to KSCA, we fully respect the prerogative and decision-making authority of the BCCI in this regard.”

Despite missing out, KSCA reaffirmed its long-term commitment, stating it “remains fully prepared and committed to hosting matches of national and international importance” and will continue to extend its “fullest support and co-operation” to the BCCI and stakeholders

IPL 2026 Playoff Scenario

The IPL 2026 playoff race is entering a decisive phase, with Punjab Kings leading the table on 13 points, followed closely by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans, all tied on 12 points. With such a tight cluster, the race for the top two spots, which offer a crucial advantage in the playoffs, remains wide open.

Punjab Kings have a slight edge, but their recent losses mean they cannot afford further slip-ups, while RCB’s superior net run rate puts them in a strong position if they maintain winning momentum. SRH, RR, and GT are also firmly in contention, and even a single win or loss could significantly alter standings given the narrow points gap.

Chennai Super Kings, currently on 10 points, remain in the hunt but need at least two more wins to reach a safer zone of 14 points. Delhi Capitals, with 8 points and a poor net run rate, face a must-win scenario in almost every remaining match, while Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians are hanging by a thread and require near-perfect finishes along with favorable results elsewhere.

Lucknow Super Giants, with just 4 points from 9 games, are effectively out of the playoff race. As the league stage nears its end, qualification is likely to hinge not just on points but also heavily on net run rate and head-to-head outcomes.
