Kumar Sangakkara Joins Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee After Government Overhaul

Kumar Sangakkara Appointed as Head Coach for RR In IPL 2026

Sri Lanka Cricket undergoes major restructuring as Kumar Sangakkara joins a new nine-member Transformation Committee.

In a major administrative shake-up, Sri Lanka Cricket has been placed under a new nine-member Transformation Committee after the government removed the previous office bearers. The move signals a fresh start for the island nation’s cricketing structure, with a mix of former players and professionals from corporate, legal, and political fields taking charge.

Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara headlines the committee, alongside ex-cricketers Roshan Mahanama and Sidath Wettimuny. The remaining members bring diverse expertise to strengthen governance and operational efficiency within the board. Former Member of Parliament Eran Wickramaratne has been appointed as the chairman of the committee, tasked with leading this transitional phase.

Focus On Governance, Infrastructure And Performance

Outlining the roadmap ahead, chairman Eran Wickramaratne stressed the need for systemic reform within Sri Lanka Cricket.

“I am privileged to lead a nine-member committee of individuals with impeccable integrity and expertise. Our immediate priority is a total overhaul of the governance framework at SLC. The cornerstone of this effort will be the implementation of the new constitution, ensuring it serves as a robust, modern foundation for the sport,” Wickramaratne said in a statement.

“We will focus on establishing the structures, world-class facilities, and incentive models necessary to empower our national teams. Our goal is to enable our players to consistently deliver world-class performances and elevate Sri Lanka back to the top tier of international rankings,” he added.

The committee also includes names such as Prakash Schaffter, Avanthi Colombage, Thushira Radella, Upul Kumarapperuma, and Dinal Phillips, forming a diverse group aimed at long-term transformation.

Sangakkara’s Legacy And Continued Influence In Cricket

Kumar Sangakkara remains one of Sri Lanka’s greatest-ever cricketers, having represented the country in 134 Tests, 404 ODIs, and 46 T20Is between 2000 and 2015. He is the nation’s highest run-scorer in both Tests and ODIs and led Sri Lanka to the final of the 2011 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup.

Since retiring from international cricket, Sangakkara has continued to influence the game off the field. He is currently serving as the head coach of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, having taken over the role previously held by Rahul Dravid.
