Brazil pacer Laura Cardoso created history on Thursday in a women’s T20I match by becoming the first cricketer to take 9 wickets in a T20I innings. The 21-year-old delivered a remarkable spell of 9/4 in 3 overs, including 2 maiden overs, at Oval 2 in Gaborone.
Cardoso broke previous records in both formats. Indonesia’s R Rohmalia had taken 7 wickets for 0 in 2024. Bhutan’s Sonam Yeshey recorded 8/7 in 2025 in men’s T20Is.

In the match, Brazil earlier posted 202 on the board. Roberta Avery scored 48 off 35 balls. Monnike Machado added 69 not out off 41 balls.

Cardoso struck early with a hat-trick in her second over. She then picked up 4 wickets in the fourth over to reach 7 wickets. She added 2 more in the sixth over to complete 9 wickets.
Marianne Artur took the final wicket as Lesotho were bowled out for 13 in 6.2 overs. Brazil secured a 189-run win.
Cardoso has now played 48 T20Is and taken 55 wickets since her 2021 debut against the USA.
