Laxman Sivaramakrishnan Retires From Commentary After 23 Years, Slams BCCI

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan retired from BCCI commentary after 23 years, questioning the board over the lack of key roles and opportunities despite his experience.

Former India spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has retired from BCCI commentary after a 23-year career in broadcasting. The 60-year-old shared the update on social media, bringing attention to his decision.

He pointed to limited responsibilities despite years of experience. Sivaramakrishnan highlighted that he did not receive opportunities in key roles like toss and presentation duties for 23 years. He also noted that newer commentators handled those segments regularly, even during earlier coaching tenures.

Sivaramakrishnan made it clear that the move was a conscious decision. He wanted a role where his contribution would carry greater value.

“I am retiring from commentary for BCCI,” he posted on X.

“If I have not been used for TOSSES and PRESENTATION for 23 years and new comers come in do pitch report Tosses Presentation even when Shastri was coaching, what do you think could be the reason. I can’t sacrifice my self-respect and suck up,” another one of his tweets read.

Sivaramakrishnan believes his background as a person of color may have influenced decisions around his role.

“This retirement is only the beginning of a story when told, general public ,cricket fans and everyone will be utterly Shocked. I am very happy that people who hate me are delighted. But those who thought I was at least decent. Thanks. BCCI will be left with disbelief,” he added.

Notably, in major BCCI matches, key duties such as the toss and presentations were often assigned to senior voices, including Ravi Shastri and Harsha Bhogle. Other commentators handled similar responsibilities in the remaining games.
