SA Add Lungi Ngidi to Squad as Multiple Injury Issues Emerge Before Second Test | Reports

South Africa have added Lungi Ngidi to their squad for the second Test as injury concerns around Kagiso Rabada and others continue to grow.

South Africa enter the second Test in Guwahati with multiple fitness concerns after a demanding series opener in Kolkata. According to Cricbuzz, Lungi Ngidi has been recalled as cover for Kagiso Rabada, who missed the first Test due to a rib injury. Ngidi, last seen in the WTC final win at Lord’s, has 58 Test wickets.

The visitors are also monitoring Simon Harmer’s shoulder issue and Marco Jansen’s minor niggle, with both undergoing assessments at Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata. Harmer and Jansen collected 13 wickets in the 30-run win at Eden Gardens. If required, Senuran Muthuswamy can step in for Harmer.

India Recall Nitish Kumar Reddy as Precaution

Meanwhile, India face uncertainty over Shubman Gill’s availability for the second Test in Guwahati after the opener developed a neck spasm during the Kolkata match. Although Gill will travel with the squad, reports indicate that his stiffness has not improved enough to confirm his place for the November 22 fixture. In response, the team recalled all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy from the India A series in Rajkot.

Reddy, who began the tour in the Test squad, rejoined the senior side in Kolkata after flying out on Monday but skipped the optional training session at Eden Gardens. India will take a final call on Gill soon, and if he is unavailable, he will head to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for further evaluation.
