M Chinnaswamy Stadium will undergo a crucial inspection on March 13 by a Karnataka government panel before receiving final clearance to host IPL 2026 matches.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is set to undergo a crucial inspection by a government-appointed expert committee on March 13 before receiving the final approval to host matches for the IPL 2026 season. The review comes after the venue received provisional permissions earlier this month, with authorities stating that the approvals granted for hosting cricket matches were “conditional”.
Despite the pending inspection, officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) remain confident that the stadium will successfully meet all the required safety and infrastructure standards.
Government Panel To Conduct Key Safety Inspection
The Karnataka government has tasked an expert committee with assessing whether the upgrades carried out at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium meet the recommended safety standards. The inspection scheduled for March 13 will determine whether the venue can officially host IPL matches this season.
Earlier permissions for cricketing events, including the IPL, were granted but remained “conditional”, pending confirmation from the inspection panel. The KSCA, however, has expressed confidence that the venue will pass the review without any complications.
Major Infrastructure Upgrades Underway At Chinnaswamy
Over the past few months, the KSCA has undertaken significant renovation work at the stadium to improve crowd management and safety. The upgrades include installing several new entry gates while expanding existing ones to ensure smoother movement of spectators.
In addition to these changes, authorities have also focused on improving the surrounding infrastructure. This includes constructing new walkways, developing a designated holding area near the old National Cricket Academy premises, and creating dedicated entry and exit routes for emergency services.

These upgrades are part of the “short-term” recommendations issued by the Justice D’Cunha Committee, which was formed after the tragic stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 title celebrations that resulted in 11 fatalities. The committee carried out a comprehensive safety and structural audit of the stadium and set a deadline of March 15 for completing the urgent improvements.
KSCA Confident As RCB Prepare For Home Fixtures
Renovation work at the venue began in mid-December following the KSCA elections, where former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad was elected as the association’s president. Since taking charge, Prasad and his team have maintained close coordination with government authorities to ensure compliance with all required procedures.
The association has also confirmed that previously unresolved safety concerns — which led to the state’s electricity regulatory authority cutting power supply to the stadium last July — have now been fully addressed.
Earlier this month, the KSCA confirmed that Royal Challengers Bengaluru would return to their traditional home ground after several rounds of discussions with key stakeholders, including the state government. To further strengthen crowd management, both KSCA and the franchise are also in talks with the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation.
As part of the new matchday arrangements, RCB will introduce digital ticket verification using QR code scanning to streamline entry into the stadium. The system is expected to reduce crowd congestion near the ticket counters on match days.
RCB are scheduled to begin their IPL 2026 campaign at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Their second home fixture will be against Chennai Super Kings on April 5. These are the only two matches in Bengaluru in the first phase of the schedule announced by the IPL.
Overall, RCB are expected to play five home matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the season, while the remaining two home games will be hosted at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.
