Mark Wood Cleared of Injury, Available for Ashes Opener

Mark Wood

England fast bowler Mark Wood was declared fit for the Ashes after scans showed no hamstring damage and he will be ready to play.

England received positive news as fast bowler Mark Wood has been cleared of any serious injury, ending concerns about his availability for the Ashes series. The 35-year-old bowler had caused alarm when he left the field during a warm-up match against England Lions on November 13.

Wood had bowled eight overs in his return to competitive cricket when he felt stiffness in his hamstring while running. This led to immediate precautionary scans amid fears he might miss the first Test against Australia in Perth.

Medical Clearance Confirmed

The England and Wales Cricket Board delivered reassuring news after the medical examination. The scans revealed no injury concerns, and Wood has been declared fit to continue preparing for the Ashes.

“Following precautionary scans on Friday, England fast bowler Mark Wood has been cleared of any concerns regarding his left hamstring,” the ECB confirmed in an official statement.

While Wood is unlikely to participate in Day 3 of the warm-up match at Lilac Hill, the team confirmed he will resume normal training in the lead-up to the Perth Test.

This update provides significant relief for England, who consider Wood’s raw pace crucial for their Ashes campaign, particularly on the bouncy Perth surface. If he remains fully fit, England could deploy a formidable pace attack including Jofra Archer, one of Brydon Carse or Josh Tongue, Gus Atkinson, and captain Ben Stokes, who has resumed bowling.
