MI Coach Confirms Mitchell Santner’s Shoulder Injury For Opting Out Of Guwahati Clash

Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack struggled in Mitchell Santner’s absence as Rajasthan Royals dominated in a rain-hit clash.

After having a harrowing defeat against Rajasthan Royals at Guwahati on Tuesday, April 7, Mumbai Indians were short of a solid spin attack, given the fact that New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner opted out of the game.

Notably, Santner had a niggle in his right shoulder that he suffered during the match against Delhi Capitals. He picked up the injury while fielding during the game.

In the 14th over of Delhi Capitals’ innings in New Delhi, Mitchell Santner was stationed at the boundary line, and while attempting to save a boundary, he stretched and dived towards his right side, hurting his right shoulder in the process. Soon after the injury, he didn’t bowl anymore in the game.

MI Coach Shares Official Update On Santner

Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene gave an official statement on Mitchell Santner’s decision to opt out of the game, confirming that it was a precautionary measure.

After the shoulder niggle, since Santner had to sit out, the Mumbai Indians had to make three changes to the side against Rajasthan Royals, and the bowling options were not as effective.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Santner was replaced by AM Ghazanfar, who returned with figures of 2-21 in 2 overs, which was the second most economical spell for the team, as Rajasthan piled up 150 runs inside 11 overs in a rain-interrupted game.
