Mitchell Starc Officially Joins Delhi Capitals IPL 2026 Squad, Return Likely vs RR

Mitchell Starc linked up with Delhi Capitals but is expected to return to action only in the May 1 clash against Rajasthan Royals.

Australia’s premier fast bowler Mitchell Starc has finally arrived in India to join the Delhi Capitals (DC) squad for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The left-arm pacer, who had been recovering from shoulder and elbow injuries, completed his rehabilitation in Australia before linking up with the team on April 25.

Despite Mitchell Starc’s arrival, the franchise is expected to take a cautious approach regarding his return, ensuring he regains full match fitness before stepping onto the field.

The franchise confirmed his return in an official social media video they released on their social media handle.

Mitchell Starc’s Return timeline set for Rajasthan Royals clash

While Starc has joined the squad, he is unlikely to feature in Delhi’s immediate fixtures against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Instead, the team management is planning a gradual reintegration, with his comeback potentially scheduled for the May 1 encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The experienced pacer is expected to spend the next few days training with the squad and adapting to Indian conditions, following a similar approach taken by Pat Cummins earlier this season.

Delhi Capitals seek consistency amid mixed campaign

Delhi Capitals have had an inconsistent run so far in IPL 2026, managing three wins and three defeats, which places them in the middle of the points table. The team will be eager to build momentum as the tournament enters a crucial phase.

Senior batter KL Rahul showed promising signs in the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and his form will be vital for Delhi moving forward. Meanwhile, the addition of Starc is expected to significantly strengthen the bowling attack led by Axar Patel.

The Australian pacer had an impactful IPL 2025 season, picking up 14 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 26.14 and an economy rate of 10.17, including his maiden five-wicket haul in the tournament. His return could prove crucial in Delhi’s push for a playoff spot.
