
Mohammed Siraj has been approved as a replacement for Harshit Rana in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad after Rana suffered a knee injury.
Mohammed Siraj has joined the India squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 after the ICC cleared him as an injury replacement for Harshit Rana. He reported to the team in Mumbai on Friday, February 6. Siraj is expected to be available for the opening match on February 7th against the USA at Wankhede Stadium.
Harshit Rana’s right knee injury created the opening. Rana suffered the injury during the warm-up match against South Africa on February 4. The ICC Event Technical Committee approved the change.
“The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Mohammad Siraj as a replacement for Harshit Rana in the India squad. The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee (ETC) before the player can be officially added to the squad,” the official media release from ICC read.

The fast bowler returns to the T20 setup after an absence since July 2024. Siraj was part of India’s title-winning campaign in 2024 under Rohit Sharma.
Siraj is likely to bowl in the powerplay alongside Jasprit Bumrah. He brings experience from 45 Tests, 50 ODIs, and 16 T20Is. In T20Is, he has taken 14 wickets at an average of 32.28 and an economy of 7.79. Across Tests and ODIs, he has claimed over 200 wickets.
