Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been named Hyderabad captain for the remainder of the Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season.
Mohammed Siraj has taken charge as Hyderabad captain for the rest of the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy season. The decision follows his return to India’s ODI side against New Zealand. The team sits fourth with 13 points after six matches. Notably, Hyderabad will play their final two league games at home. Mumbai visit from January 22, followed by Chhattisgarh on January 29. Both matches take place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Tilak Varma was earlier named captain but suffered an abdominal injury during the T20I series. Selectors then turned to Siraj despite his lack of prior leadership experience. Batter G Rahul Singh has been named vice-captain.

Mohammed Siraj played an important role in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy last year, finishing with 23 wickets as the leading bowler. He led the pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Although he missed earlier Ranji matches, Siraj has stayed active in domestic cricket. He took seven wickets in four games during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also took three wickets in three Vijay Hazare Trophy matches, including a four-wicket haul against Bengal.
Siraj returned to ODIs against New Zealand after missing the South Africa tour. He took two wickets in Vadodara and went wicketless in Rajkot. The Mumbai and Chhattisgarh matches mark his Ranji return, subject to national duties.
