PCB and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi may skip the upcoming ICC meeting in Dubai as the BCCI plans to raise the Asia Cup trophy dispute.
PCB and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi is unlikely to attend the upcoming ICC Executive Board meeting in Dubai, where the BCCI plans to discuss the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 trophy issue. Reports from PTI indicate that Naqvi could be occupied with domestic political matters, preventing his travel.
The four-day ICC event began on Tuesday, with the crucial chief executives’ meeting scheduled for November 7. If Naqvi remains absent, PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Syed is expected to represent the board. Sources also suggest that Naqvi may participate virtually.
India’s five-wicket win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup final in Dubai had taken an unexpected turn when the team refused to accept the trophy from ACC chief and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The players, backed by the BCCI, had requested that other officials conduct the presentation, but Naqvi declined and left the stage with the trophy. The Indian squad then celebrated humorously, posing with imaginary trophies and cups.
The trophy has since remained locked inside the ACC headquarters near the Dubai International Stadium, reportedly under Naqvi’s control. Despite India raising the issue at an ACC meeting, no resolution was reached. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board had written to the ACC ten days ago, demanding the handover. The BCCI has now given a deadline of November 4 and plans to escalate the matter to the ICC in Dubai if the trophy is not returned.
