BCCI formally contacted ACC president Mohsin Naqvi, asking him to return the Asia Cup trophy withheld after India’s victory over Pakistan in the 2025 final.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sent an official email to Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, requesting the immediate return of the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to India. Naqvi, who also serves as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and a minister in Pakistan, left the Dubai International Cricket Stadium with the trophy after India’s five-wicket win over Pakistan in the final on September 28.
According to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, as quoted by India Today, the board is waiting for a response from Naqvi. “If there is no reply from his side, then they will escalate the matter to ICC with an official mail,” Saikia said.
The Asia Cup trophy currently remains at the ACC headquarters in Dubai. It was reported on October 10 that strict instructions have been issued, stating that the trophy must not be moved or handed over without Naqvi’s approval.

A source close to Naqvi confirmed the same, stating that the trophy will stay in the ACC office until Naqvi himself authorises its handover. “As of today the trophy is still in ACC offices in Dubai with clear instructions from Naqvi that it should not be moved or handed over to anyone without his approval and in-person presence,” the source told PTI on October 10, 2025.
“Naqvi has given clear instructions that only he will hand over the trophy in person (whenever that happens) to the Indian team or BCCI,” the source added.
Tensions rise amid Indo-Pak friction
The Asia Cup 2025 was marked by intense Indo-Pak tensions throughout the tournament. Players from both sides reportedly avoided shaking hands after matches, and the exchanges between the two teams often carried political undertones.
Naqvi’s own social media posts also stirred controversy, with political remarks adding further strain to an already heated atmosphere. India defeated Pakistan in a thrilling finale to clinch the Asia Cup 2025 title, but the post-match dispute over the trophy has since overshadowed the cricketing triumph.
