MS Dhoni could return for CSK soon as he prepares for a crucial fitness test ahead of their next IPL 2026 match.
In a significant development for Chennai Super Kings, veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni is reportedly preparing to undergo a fitness test in the coming days. The 44-year-old has not featured in IPL 2026 so far after sustaining a calf strain just before the tournament began.
Reports suggest that if Dhoni clears the test, he could make his return as early as CSK’s upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals at Chepauk this Saturday. Despite his absence from matches, Dhoni has resumed batting practice in the nets and is said to be showing no signs of discomfort.
CSK Take Cautious Approach With Veteran Star
The team management is being careful with Dhoni’s recovery and is not willing to rush him back into action. He has also not been travelling with the squad during the early phase of the tournament, highlighting the cautious strategy being adopted.
Meanwhile, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming also provided an update on another injured player, Dewald Brevis, who is recovering from a side strain.
“We hope he is going to be right for the next game. We have five days between the next game. We have been conservative and hopefully, these next five days go as well as we have planned, and he is ready to go,” Fleming said as quoted by The Indian Express.
CSK Struggle Early Amid Injury Concerns
Chennai Super Kings have endured a difficult start to their IPL 2026 campaign, losing their first three matches against Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. They currently sit at the bottom of the points table and are among the few teams yet to register a win this season.

Dhoni’s potential return could provide a major boost to the struggling side, especially as the team looks to regain momentum. Alongside him, the absence of Dewald Brevis has also weakened the lineup, with the young South African missing all three games so far.
As Dhoni approaches what is widely expected to be the final phase of his IPL career, fans will be eager to see him back on the field if he clears the upcoming fitness test.
