NZ All-Rounder Doug Bracewell Retires From International and Domestic Cricket

New Zealand all-rounder Doug Bracewell announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after a 12-year international career.

New Zealand all-rounder Doug Bracewell has retired from all forms of cricket, ending a career that spanned more than a decade. The 35-year-old decided after a prolonged rib injury limited his ability to play this domestic season. He last appeared for New Zealand in a Test match in 2023.

Bracewell represented his country in 69 international matches across formats from 2011 to 2023. His record includes 28 Tests, 21 ODIs, and 20 T20Is. His best performance came early in his career during the 2011 Hobart Test against Australia. In that match, he claimed figures of 9 for 60 and played a central role in a seven-run win. The win ended New Zealand’s 26-year wait for a Test win in Australia and remains their last on Australian soil.

Bracewell also enjoyed a long domestic career with Central Districts, contributing as a reliable seam-bowling all-rounder. He scored more than 4,000 runs and took over 400 wickets in New Zealand’s first-class cricket. In 137 matches, he finished with 437 wickets at 31.08 and 4,505 runs, including three centuries. He also featured in franchise leagues, playing IPL 2012, SA20 2024, and the Global Super League earlier this year.

In Test cricket, Doug Bracewell claimed 74 wickets at an average of 38.82 and added 568 runs with the bat. In limited-overs cricket, he took 26 wickets in ODIs and 20 in T20Is. Overall, he scored 915 international runs.
