Delhi Capitals batter Nitish Rana faced disciplinary action after an on-field incident during the IPL 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Nitish Rana was fined 25 percent of his match fee and received 1 demerit point.
The issue began in the 19th over when Tristan Stubbs requested a glove change due to the sweat in Chennai conditions. The umpire declined the request, triggering a tense exchange. Several Delhi Capitals players, including Rana, questioned the umpire after Tristan Stubbs’ request to change his gloves was denied.

Officials reviewed the incident and charged him under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The charge relates to the use of an audible obscenity during a match. The league confirmed the sanction under Level 1 offense guidelines. Rana accepted the penalty, closing the matter without further hearing.
Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also faced a penalty. Officials fined him INR 12 lakh after CSK maintained a slow over-rate during the match. The offense marked the team’s first breach under Article 2.22 in IPL 2026.
“Rana was found to have breached article 2.3 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to ‘use of an audible obscenity during a match’,” the official statement from IPL read.
“As this was his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses, Gaikwad was fined INR 12 lakhs,” it added.
CSK secured a 23-run win in the game at MA Chidambaram Stadium. They will next face the Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday.
