WATCH | Tristran Stubbs Denied Gloves Change By Umpire; DC Batter Throws Helmet In Frustration

Tristan Stubbs fumes at umpires after he was denied a gloves change before his dismissal in the CSK vs DC IPL 2026 clash.

It was a stinging affair between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings in the April 11 clash in IPL 2026. Tristan Stubbs, who almost led Delhi to an impossible chase against Chennai Super Kings, was dismissed on the third ball of the 19th over, with Delhi requiring 32 runs off 12 deliveries prior to that.

While on-field spats are a common visual in this Indian Premier League, an off-field spat occurred between Tristan Stubbs and the fourth umpire on the ground.

How Was Tristan Stubbs Dismissed?

Notably, Stubbs was dismissed on the third ball of the 19th over when Jamie Overton kept the pace high at 144 kph to bowl a full and straighter line in the off-stump channel.

Stubbs tried to go big and swung to clear the fence down the ground; however, he mistimed it as the ball hit the off-top part of the bat and was safely caught by Noor Ahmad at mid-off.

This dismissal left Stubbs angry as he walked back to the dressing room, slamming his helmet on the floor.

The frustration, though, emerged from two scenarios: firstly, failing to stay unbeaten and close the chase for his team, and secondly, a glove-change denial that was orchestrated by the fourth umpire on the sidelines.

Stubbs Denied Gloves Change

Interestingly, during the live broadcast of the match, a replay was shown that just before Stubbs’ dismissal, he was denied a change of gloves by the umpire. DC head coach Hemang Badani had a heated chat with the official on the field, with Karun Nair also visibly frustrated as he looked to have Stubbs’ gloves exchanged in one of his hands.

While walking back to the dressing room, Stubbs was also seen angrily cursing at the match officials, probably because he was denied the glove change, which might have caused his dismissal, with sweat building up in his hands, leading to a slippery and non-firm grip to play a solid stroke. Nevertheless, Stubbs’ dismissal handed Chennai Super Kings the upper hand as the final over was bowled by Anshul Kamboj to Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan.

Eventually, DC collapsed, losing all their wickets inside 20 overs and were bundled out for 189 runs, as Chennai Super Kings registered their first victory of the season by 23 runs at Chepauk.
