The Pakistan government may reportedly withdraw from the T20 World Cup 2026 or boycott the India match over the ICC’s treatment of Bangladesh.
Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026 remains uncertain despite the squad announcement on Sunday. Mohsin Naqvi clarified that the selection does not settle the issue, as the final decision rests with the federal government.
The development follows dissatisfaction over the ICC’s decision to remove Bangladesh and replace them with Scotland. Bangladesh had declined to travel to India, citing security concerns, but the ICC maintained the schedule after assessments found minimal risk at host venues.
Recent reports from Geo News suggested that the government may direct Pakistan to withdraw from the tournament or boycott their match against India. Government sources indicated that the matter is being viewed as an issue of governance and fairness by Pakistan.

“The final decision rests with the prime minister, but early indications suggest that the government may not allow Pakistan to participate in the T20 World Cup. This is not just about cricket; it is about principles. Bangladesh has been deprived of its legitimate right, and the ICC’s step-motherly treatment has forced Pakistan to seriously rethink its participation,” a source was quoted as saying.
“There cannot be dual standards in international sports. On one hand, India enjoys the liberty to choose venues, while on the other, countries like Bangladesh are denied venue changes despite citing security concerns. If the ICC truly wants cricket to thrive as a global sport, such selective policies must end,” they added.
Black Armbands, India Match Boycott Under Review
Additionally, reports from Samaa TV indicated that the PCB is weighing symbolic actions if the team participates. Sources said three options are under review. Players could wear black armbands throughout the competition. Pakistan may also consider boycotting the February 15 fixture against India in Colombo. Another proposal involves dedicating every tournament win to Bangladesh cricket supporters.
Pakistan is set to play all matches in Sri Lanka under arrangements agreed by the ICC and the Board of Control for Cricket in India. They were the only ICC member to back Bangladesh’s position.
