A Pakistan cricketer was fined for alleged misconduct with a female hotel staff member during the T20 World Cup, with further disciplinary action possible after the team’s exit.

Pakistan cricket has landed in fresh controversy after a member of the national team was reportedly fined for misconduct involving a female hotel staff member during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The incident allegedly took place while the team was staying in Kandy during the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

According to a report in Telecom Asia Sport, the incident occurred ahead of Pakistan’s final Super 8 clash against Sri Lanka. The unnamed cricketer allegedly behaved inappropriately with a female housekeeping staff member at the team hotel.

The situation escalated when the staff member raised an alarm, prompting other hotel employees to intervene and bring the matter under control. The issue was then reported to Pakistan team manager Naveed Cheema.

Senior officials from the Golden Crown Hotel reportedly demanded strict action against the player following the incident.

Team Management Imposes Fine

As per the report, Naveed Cheema apologised to the hotel management on behalf of the cricketer and imposed a financial penalty for misconduct. The action taken by the team management helped resolve the situation at the hotel at that time.

However, the identity of the player involved has not been revealed so far. Despite the immediate fine, the matter is expected to be reviewed further once the team returns to Pakistan.

Reports suggest that the player may have to appear before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), where additional disciplinary action could be considered.

Disappointing T20 World Cup Campaign For Pakistan

The controversy comes shortly after Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026. The team failed to qualify for the semifinals after missing out due to net run rate during the Super 8 stage.

Following their elimination, the squad returned home in batches on Sunday, March 1 and Monday.

The latest controversy has once again raised concerns about off-field behaviour during overseas tours. A similar incident occurred last year when young batter Haider Ali was arrested by Greater Manchester Police during a Pakistan Shaheens tour of England over rape allegations. He later appeared in court and was released due to insufficient evidence.

In another earlier case, team masseur Malang Ali was also reported and fined for misconduct involving a female staff member during a tour of Malaysia.
