Ravi Shastri Tipped To Become Next England Coach After Brendon McCullum

Geoffrey Boycott Calls for Brendon McCullum’s Sacking After Ashes Loss

Monty Panesar advised Ravi Shastri to replace Brendon McCullum as England coach.

Former England spinner Monty Panesar has proposed that ex-India head coach Ravi Shastri be considered to lead the England team following their dismal performance in the ongoing Ashes series. His comments come after Australia secured the Ashes in a record 11 days, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match contest.

England’s approach under coach Brendon McCullum, famously dubbed ‘Bazball,’ has faced significant criticism for its failure in Australian conditions.

Why Shastri As The Next England Coach?

In a conversation with journalist Ravi Bisht, Panesar argued that England require a coach like Shastri, who has a proven record of defeating Australia on their home soil.

Under Shastri’s leadership, Team India secured their first-ever Test series win in Australia in 2018-19 and repeated the achievement in 2020-21. England’s batting and bowling have both struggled throughout the Ashes tour, leading to heavy defeats in Perth, Brisbane, and Adelaide.

“You have to think, who exactly knows how to beat Australia? How will you take advantage of Australia’s weakness, mentally, physically, and tactically. I think Ravi Shastri should become England’s next head coach,” Panesar stated.

Meanwhile, England have announced changes to their playing XI for the fourth Ashes Test, beginning on Boxing Day (December 26). Fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out for the remainder of the series and is replaced by Gus Atkinson. All-rounder Jacob Bethell will take Ollie Pope’s place in the lineup.
