Ravi Shastri strongly warned critics and team officials not to create doubts around Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, insisting that players of their stature must be supported.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri issued a sharp message to those questioning Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He urged critics and decision-makers to stop creating unnecessary pressure around the senior duo.
With debates growing over their future in the ODI setup, Shastri reminded everyone of their value to Indian cricket. He stressed that both players continue to deliver at a high level and deserve full backing.
“These two are grandfathers. White-ball giants, toh aise players ke saath aap masti mat karo yaar (don’t needle them),” Shastri said in an interview with Prabhat Khabar.
When asked who his comments were aimed at, Shastri said that some people are creating unnecessary pressure on the duo, without naming anyone.
“Karne waale kar rahe hain. Agar unka dimaag theek ho gaya na aur sahi bata daba diya, to sab aaju baaju nikal jayenge(People are doing it. But if their minds click and they press the right buttons, everyone causing trouble will disappear instantly),” the former cricketer said.
Debate around Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s readiness for the 2027 ODI World Cup has grown, with critics pointing to their reduced match time. Selectors have pushed both to play domestic one-day cricket to stay in rhythm. Rohit reportedly agreed to compete in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and SMAT, while Kohli initially declined but later chose to return after further discussions.
