Ravi Shastri Slams MI After Another Loss, Says ‘Look in the Mirror’

Ravi Shastri criticized the Mumbai Indians after an 8-wicket loss to CSK, saying the team hasn’t played to its potential in IPL 2026.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri criticized the Mumbai Indians after their latest defeat in IPL 2026, saying the team has failed to match its potential.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) lost by 8 wickets to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday. The result left them ninth on the table with just 2 wins from 9 matches. With only 2 weeks of league-stage cricket left, MI risk an early exit. Even if they win all remaining games, they can reach only 14 points, which may not secure a playoff spot.

Shastri said the squad would feel disappointed and urged them to reflect on their performances this season. He added that the players have not delivered to their expected standards.

“The Mumbai Indians would be really dejected. Disappointing season. Well, if they really look themselves in the mirror, they would feel they haven’t played to potential one bit,” said Shastri after CSK’s win on Saturday.

Captain Hardik Pandya also admitted the campaign has not gone as planned. Shastri then advised the team to assess their approach and improve in the remaining matches.

“Not the season. They (CSK) played better, they bowled better, they fielded better, and they batted better,” Pandya said after the match.

“Well, all I can say is tough luck today. Reflect on the season and still a month to go in the IPL,” Shastri replied.

In the match, Chennai Super Kings completed a comfortable chase in IPL 2026, reaching the target in 18.1 overs without much trouble. Ruturaj Gaikwad led the effort with an unbeaten 67, while Kartik Sharma supported him with 54 not out.
