Renuka Thakur Receives ₹1 Crore Cash Award from Himachal CM After World Cup Win

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a ₹1 crore reward for Renuka Thakur to celebrate her role in India’s historic Women’s World Cup win.

India celebrated a historic moment as the women’s cricket team lifted their first-ever ODI World Cup title on Sunday. Among the heroes of the win was Himachal Pradesh pacer Renuka Thakur, whose impactful performances played a key role.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu congratulated the team for their remarkable feat and praised Renuka for bringing glory to the state. To honour her contribution, the Chief Minister announced a ₹1 crore cash reward and personally extended his wishes to the cricketer over a phone call.

“The daughters of India have made the nation proud on the world stage. Rohru’s daughter Renuka Thakur has fulfilled the dream that every girl from the hills sees. Overcoming struggles to become part of a World Cup–winning team is a matter of pride for both India and Himachal. Renuka has proven that passion and self-belief can conquer any challenge,” Sukhu said.

In the match, India put up a strong batting display, scoring 298 for 7 in 50 overs after South Africa elected to field at the toss. Shafali Verma led the charge with a career-best 87 from 78 balls, while Deepti Sharma added a solid 58 off 58 deliveries.

Chasing 299, South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt fought hard with a fluent 101 from 98 balls, but her teammates struggled to build partnerships. The visitors were dismissed for 246 in 45.3 overs. Deepti delivered a brilliant all-round performance, taking 5 for 39 in 9.3 overs.
