Rinku Singh was named Fielder of the Match as India began their ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a 29-run win over the USA at Wankhede Stadium.
India’s finisher Rinku Singh was awarded the Fielder of the Match medal after the defending champions secured a 29-run victory against the USA in their opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.
Rinku made a strong impact on the field, saving several crucial runs during the USA’s chase. He also took a stunning catch to dismiss Sanjay Krishnamurthi at deep mid-wicket in the 16th over, a moment that pushed India closer to victory.
In a video shared by the BCCI on Instagram, Rinku was seen preparing to address the team after receiving the medal. As skipper Suryakumar Yadav announced his name, the right-handed batter said, “Hello Team India. It is the start of the tournament, and we have to keep this spirit for the rest of the tournament and be aggressive. Keep supporting each other, and GG sir (head coach Gautam Gambhir) always says, ruthless.”
India’s Outing With USA
While Rinku impressed with his fielding, he had a quiet outing with the bat in his T20 World Cup debut. Walking in at a tense situation with India struggling at 46/4 after the powerplay, he was dismissed early after scoring just five runs off 11 balls.
India were earlier rescued by a captain’s knock from Suryakumar Yadav, who played a match-winning innings of 84 not out. After the two-time champions slipped to 77/6, Suryakumar and Axar Patel stitched together a vital 41-run partnership for the seventh wicket. The Indian skipper then finished strongly, smashing two sixes and two fours in the final over to lift India to 161/9 in their 20 overs.
