Rinku Singh’s Father Dies After Cancer Battle, Harbhajan Shares Update

Rinku Singh’s father, Khanchand Singh, has passed away after battling Stage-4 liver cancer; Harbhajan Singh shared the update and offered condolences.

Rinku Singh’s father, Khanchand Singh, passed away on Friday after battling stage four cancer. Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh shared the update and expressed condolences to the family.

Khanchand Singh was receiving treatment at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida. His condition deteriorated earlier this week, and doctors placed him on ventilator support. The illness had earlier forced the 28-year-old cricketer to leave India’s camp before the Super 8 match against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Rinku returned before the game but did not feature in the playing XI, with Sanju Samson selected instead.

Reports from the Hindustan Times indicate that Rinku has now travelled back home to be with his family. He is likely to rejoin the squad before the final Super 8 fixture against West Indies.

“Pained to learn about the demise of Shri Khanchand Singh Ji, father of Rinku Singh. This must be an especially difficult time for Rinku and his family, even as he remains committed to his responsibilities during the T20 World Cup. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family,” Harbhajan wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Rinku did not feature in the playing XI against Zimbabwe but took the field as a substitute. He first replaced Suryakumar Yadav and later stepped in when Abhishek Sharma received treatment.

India won the match by 72 runs after posting 256/4 in 20 overs through half-centuries from Abhishek and Hardik Pandya. India will next face the West Indies on March 1 in Kolkata.
